Inspirational Women

Y’all, I just spent the majority of my morning writing a post about a guy I used to date and was so embarrassed that I had to delete it. Don’t worry, once I swallow my pride a bit, you’ll hear all about it.

Instead, today, we are taking a trip to one of my favorite brunch places. Weird, right?

I spent the majority of my time in Waco so concerned about community. I had an insanely amazing community in undergrad and I so wanted that community in Texas. The thing is, when you go for a professional degree, you forget that people have full time, or at least a few part time, jobs in addition to going to school. My time wasn’t as filled with friends as I had hoped.

My first job at a church was solely focused on the students. Aside from that, there were about 5 people my age in the congregation. After a few years of working there, I decided it was time to move on and I started attending University Baptist Church in Waco. Quickly, I began having regular brunches with a group from church on Sundays after the service.

I think what I loved so much about it was their twist on mimosas (apple spice was my favorite), and games. Our usual go to was Cards Against Humanity which led to a lot of laughter and memories. The ladies I spent my time with have since gone on and we are spread across the country, doing ministries in a wide different number of capacities. Though our time there was spent laughing, eating, and tasting mimosas, it is the time we broke past the surface conversation and shared our past, our dreams, our goals, our frustrations…

What I want these women to know is that I cherish these memories specifically because of them. Their sass, and uniqueness. Their love, and their openness. Mostly, their ability to share Christ in vastly different ways and not trying to conform to the typical christian woman, and excitement to paving the path for future female pastors and preachers. Taking to heart the great commission:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,” which is inscribed on the globe in the entryway of our seminary.
